A decision guide / Private treatment
How to choose the best luxury rehab for you
Choose the care that fits your needs, then the setting that helps you engage with it.
Searching for the best rehab often starts with a place, a recommendation or a photograph. A useful shortlist goes further: what will treatment involve, who is responsible, what will daily life feel like, and how will care continue afterward? This guide helps you compare those decisions without assuming that one program is right for everyone.
About our recommendations: VAYEMA, THE BALANCE and COGNIFUL are part of THE BALANCE GROUP. We explain our group’s options alongside the questions to ask any provider. This is an affiliated decision guide, not an independent ranking or a comparison of clinical success rates.
Start with clinical fit, not a league table
Ask what the assessment needs to establish and which level of care it recommends. Outpatient appointments, an intensive outpatient schedule, a residential stay and medically directed inpatient care are different options. A luxurious residence does not by itself establish the medical capabilities you need. The NIAAA treatment-settings guide explains these distinctions for alcohol treatment.
Describe the full situation rather than selecting a program around one symptom. Substance use can occur alongside depression, anxiety or other mental health concerns. The NIMH guidance on co-occurring conditions explains the value of assessment and coordinated care. Ask whether the proposed team can address the relevant concerns together and what would require a different service.
A helpful recommendation should identify a clinical lead, the initial goals, the treatment setting and a review point. It should also explain when the provider would recommend another setting. You do not need to diagnose yourself before contacting the team.
Separate privacy, accommodation and individual treatment
These are three different questions. A private bedroom can sit within a shared residence. Individual psychotherapy can be provided alongside shared meals and activities. A residence dedicated to one client is a different living arrangement again. Ask about each element rather than treating the word private as an answer to all three.
What will the treatment week actually include?
Request an illustrative schedule and ask which elements would change after assessment. Distinguish individual psychotherapy, psychiatric or medical appointments, group work, supportive activities, rest and practical assistance. A total for staff-contact hours should not be mistaken for the same number of psychotherapy hours. Confirm who would deliver each clinical component.
What does discretion mean in practice?
Discuss appointment reminders, visitors, reports, billing and family communication. An assistant or family office may help organize logistics without receiving unrestricted access to clinical information. Ask about the limits of confidentiality and agree who may receive which information. Neither a high price nor a secluded address should replace that discussion.
Two featured residential choices, for different preferences
THE BALANCE: for one-client residential privacy
A residence dedicated to you, not simply a private bedroom. THE BALANCE’s residential model dedicates a residence and program to one client in Mallorca or Zurich. Its published program overview describes assessment, coordinated professional input and continuing care around an individual plan.
Consider this format when not sharing residential life with unrelated clients is an important preference. Discuss the exact residence, daily schedule, professional team and family arrangements. The individual format is a reason to explore suitability, not evidence that it produces better outcomes than every alternative.
COGNIFUL: for individual care with a small shared experience
Your own suite and plan, with selected parts of daily life shared. COGNIFUL offers a Mallorca residence for a maximum of four clients, private suites and primarily individual psychotherapy. Its residential guide explains the balance of private space, shared meals, common areas and selected activities.
Consider this setting when you welcome limited shared daily life alongside personal treatment. It is not exclusive use of the whole residence. Ask how the shared environment fits your needs and which clinical services are included in your plan.
Neither format is automatically the right choice. A person may prefer one setting but need another level of clinical support, or may be better served by local outpatient care. Read the detailed THE BALANCE and COGNIFUL comparison for destinations, practical differences and the questions to settle before admission.
Compare staying local with traveling for treatment
First establish where care would actually happen. A service advertised to residents of a city may use a residential setting elsewhere. Consider appointment travel, family involvement, treatment language, time away and the relationship with your existing clinicians. The location that works for a residential stay may not work for repeated outpatient appointments afterward.
THE BALANCE’s featured residential destinations are Mallorca and Zurich; COGNIFUL’s is Mallorca. For London, Malibu or another client-origin location, these are residential alternatives elsewhere, not local facilities. Start with the relevant VAYEMA location guide and confirm the specific service available.
Ask for evidence and a comparable written proposal
Request the named professionals and their roles, the actual accommodation, the proposed clinical schedule, relevant registration information and the admission criteria. Ask what is confirmed and what remains subject to assessment. A photograph describes a setting; it does not establish treatment quality. Testimonials describe experiences, not your likely outcome.
Compare the same period and inclusions: assessment, clinical sessions, accommodation, meals, coordination, external medical care and follow-up. Ask about cancellation, extensions and early departure. COGNIFUL publishes its weekly fee and inclusions on its admissions page; THE BALANCE provides fees and admissions information. Confirm the current written proposal before making a commitment.
Ask an insurer about the exact proposed service rather than assuming that coverage for one clinician applies to a full residential stay. Keep a preference for luxury accommodation separate from the decision about clinically appropriate care.
Plan the first weeks after treatment before you arrive
Identify the receiving clinician, first follow-up appointment and responsibilities for medication or physical-health monitoring. Discuss how work, family and travel will affect that plan. Ask how records will be shared with your permission and who will review progress. Continuing-care planning and paid follow-up appointments are not necessarily the same inclusion.
VAYEMA can discuss assessment, care coordination and local treatment arrangements where available. The professional, location, appointment format and clinical responsibilities are confirmed individually.
Questions about choosing the best luxury rehab
Is the most expensive rehab the best?
A fee does not answer whether the service can meet your needs. Compare clinical suitability, the actual treatment plan and responsibilities, then accommodation and personal preferences. Ask what additional spending buys and whether that feature matters to your care rather than assuming a price hierarchy is a quality hierarchy.
Can a small shared residence still provide individual treatment?
Yes. At COGNIFUL, the residence accommodates a maximum of four clients while psychotherapy is primarily individual and each person has a personal plan. Shared accommodation and individual clinical work are separate dimensions. Confirm the proposed session schedule and what activities would be shared.
Does this guide rank THE BALANCE and COGNIFUL above every other provider?
No. It explains affiliated options through verified differences in setting, privacy and treatment format. It does not claim a comparative clinical success rate or award a universal first place. Independent local providers and other levels of care may be more appropriate for an individual situation.
What should I share in the first conversation?
Describe what has become difficult, where you are based, previous care and the main questions you want answered. You can ask about practical arrangements before deciding on treatment. The team should explain how to share any sensitive records securely and what is needed for a clinical suitability review.
Urgent medical or psychiatric needs require appropriate local care. Do not delay urgent assessment while choosing a residence or arranging international travel.
Find the setting that fits your priorities
Discuss local care, a dedicated residence or a small shared residential setting without choosing a package before your needs are understood.
